Using ring sizers
Everyone's fingers are different. The sizer should feel comfortable, not tight and not too loose. How snug you would like it to feel depends on how hot or cold your hands are. This can mean at least one change in size, so worthy of trying the sizers a few times when your hands are at different temperatures. Ideally, it needs to feel as though it won't fall off and it is not stopping the blood from flowing!

Plastic sizers...
Plastic sizers are a neat way to measure a finger. Always note the size before taking them off. Also, these are wider than a normal ring shank, so the size you select may be a little larger than needed.

Measuring an existing ring...
If you have a ring that fits, measuring the inside diameter is sufficient to determine the finger size. Important to measure the inside diameter across the middle of the ring.

Finding the size for a surprise proposal...
There is no perfect solution so here are a few options. 1. Ask a mutual friend to try on one of their rings and then measure that afterwards. 2. Ask a parent or someone close to say they want to give them a ring and get them to try one on. 3. See if one of their fingers is similar in size to a finger of yours. 4. Propose with a CMS 3D printed version and complete the design together.
